Long live golf (with apologies to Pete Townsend & The Who)

Down at Eisenhower Park the scene was changing,
Golfers were hanging out and just plain waiting,
We were the first foursome to get out of our car,
And find the distance to the cashier too far,
We have a reservation for six-o'clock,
Golfers are here to play,
Long live golf.

Long live golf, I dream about it every night,
Long live golf, come on and get a tee time,
Long live golf, I’ll play it as long as I’m alive.

People on the driving range pretending that they're Tiger,
Eddie’s hitting bombs with his brand new driver,
Some guy is in the lot selling knock-offs made in Hong Kong,
The starter is in his box wondering where the carts‘ve gone,
Back in the club house the Pro’s nursing his scotch,
Golf is here to stay,
Long live golf.

Long live golf, I dream about it every night,
Long live golf, come on and get a tee time,
Long live golf, I’ll play it as long as I’m alive.

Spring time, golf is calling,
Calling down through our very bones,
Tee times on a weekend morning,
Look again, we’re not alone, we’re not alone , we’re not alone.

The course is really crowded, a backup on the tees.
Foursomes in the fairways and foursomes on the greens,
Over booked on the Red they move to the Blue and White.
The parking lot is filled, there’s not a space in sight.
Rangers have their hands full pushing duffers along,
Golfers are here to play,
Long live golf, Long live golf, Long live golf,

Long live golf, I dream about it every night,
Long live golf, come on and get a tee time,
Long live golf, I’ll play it as long as I’m alive.
