Recurring Nightmare

Another school turned into a slaughterhouse
as innocent children and heroic adults are gunned down.
The wounds are fresh and the scars will last forever.
We shed tears and shake our heads; ask why and how

as innocent children and heroic adults are gunned down
within the confines of a safe and secure sanctuary.
We shed tears and shake our heads; ask why and how
a profane and insane atrocity like this can occur

within the confines of a safe and secure sanctuary.
Precious lives and dreams are lost to eternity.
A profane and insane atrocity like this can occur
because we fail to confront uncomfortable issues.

Precious lives and dreams are lost to eternity
from shootings in schools, colleges, malls and theaters,
because we fail to confront uncomfortable issues
of mental healthcare and the regulation of personal weapons.

From shootings in schools, colleges, malls and theaters,
a recurring nightmare of violence and death caused by lack
of mental healthcare and the regulation of personal weapons.
No one wants to deal with a partisan debate in Congress.

A recurring nightmare of violence and death caused by lack
to discuss the rights and safety of individuals and society.
No one wants to deal with a partisan debate in Congress.
They say it is improper to do so in a time of mourning

to discuss the rights and safety of individuals and society.
The wounds are fresh and the scars will last forever.
They say it is improper to do so in a time of mourning
another school turned into a slaughterhouse.
