the black room beckons
me to enter
a make believe bedroom where
dreams imagine themselves
to be real
the bed reaches up grabs me
swallows me whole
sweeps me out
to the sea of dreams
floating on the stream
of unconsciousness
I rode the river
of night until I awoke
tumbling over the water
fall of daylight
Judy floats across the lagoon
in a paper boat
with a ladder on her back
& a flashlight on her head
Max rides the surf
straddling
the backs of two sea turtles
he tells me to pay
special attention to the wildlife
partying
in the salt marshes
Christina jogs along
the water’s edge wearing high
heels, fishnet stockings,
miniskirt & tube top
I thought you don’t
have these things in your wardrobe 
“only in your dreams”
but will she drop her car keys?
"not even in your dreams”
Robert is on a beach blanket
& rhymes in
I might sound like an ogre
but I wonder
if she does yoga in her toga
Yolanda builds sandcastles,shelters
for stray dog & catfish
George wades out of the water
dressed in a pinstripe suit
& silk tie
he’s back from England
he says the Beat goes on
from the Bowery
to Bradstock & the Barn
Tammy rides up on a big
Harley Hog
a Fat Boy with a sidecar
“do you need a ride?”
but George hops in
& with a roar
they’re gone
Jay appears in a flash
of fire & puff of smoke
his words are incendiary
& he plays
the bongos like a demon
shark police with starfish badges
cart Tom away
charged
with peddling free speech
without a license
an overweight flamingo
with a bearded
face struts along
the shore of pistachio beach
wearing a purple tutu
while the pomegranate
elephant
raises its orange trunk,
Edgar says nothing rhymes
with orange but
he likes the color
I tell him it’s a female pachyderm
she lacks
the tasty seeds & tusks
a monkey sits in the sand opening
coconuts
with his handy-dandy acme
jackhammer
singing
pecans go well with my verses
