today’s teenagers
                 speak words
not yet found
                 in dictionary
head phones on
                 head down
                          &
                 head bobbing
they sit on stoop,
                 chair, curb
                        or
                 hip-hop bop
                                  shuffle
                 down streets
thumbs flutter
                 like wings
                        of humming birds
over cell phones
                 iPods, iPads
                         &
                 Blackberries
they multi-task
                 communication
                         &
                 information
                                    pass
                 @ speed of light
books
                movies
                               music
                                   &
                                  art
digitized
                 byte-sized
                                 chunks 
taken in
                 stored
in outside hard drive
                  disconnected
                             wireless
                                      link
imagination & discovery
                    lost forever
                    or
found & shared
                    in micro-waves
that flood the air
                   virtual reality
                               future theirs
