Air

As one sweats in stuffy weather
champaka or jasmine wafting in the air
suddenly allays his grievance;
mild mild gentle puff, body rejoices the touch.
A whiff of forgotten smell, a chilly or moist air
sometimes dampens or saddens the heart
while colourful air of the spring brings lovers closer.
Sometimes a mad wind blows haphazardly
inviting you to join it wishfully
and on the sea side wind is stiff and breezy,
smelly and briny, rough on the face.
Sometimes a gale due to low pressure
at a distance somewhere in the sea
jolts the trees drying and shedding their leaves;
falling off straight, unexpectedly
or a cyclone with rain lashes.
Whirl wind at times before the rain
lifts a man with dust creating a scene
other times everything stands still in sweltering heat
not even a leaf moves, no shivering seen
but that does not mean that there is no air
you breathe in and breathe out, air’s always full and fair.
