anti-poem

this is an anti-poem

the words will not perform any tricks
nor will they be trotted out like a dog and pony show
no linguistic acrobatics will be presented by an academic artist
to sound like an encyclopedic encyclical
of how a poem should be delivered
or what it’s all about
and you can’t look it up

there will be no clinical dissertations
or colloquial clichés
no anatomical parts will be alluded to with geometric shapes
or by geographical land masses
although caves may be explored by rocket ships
time and space have no meaning

and I’m not an astronaut
just a soul lost in the cosmos
and as for experiencing an emotion
treat it as a biological function-
something that comes and goes

you see I lost my mind in Coney Island
and Far Rockaway broke my heart
when they tore down Playland and stole
the memories of my youth
now I live out east and play golf to pass the time
when I have nothing worthwhile
to write about
