Certo dia fui imitar Cabral,
Peguei minha nau
Me lancei ao mar
Fui procurar novas terras!
Fui também procurar amores
Por cada Porto que passava
Me encantava com as lindas mulheres:
Européias, Africanas e Indianas!
Encanta-me também os povos
Seus costumes, suas músicas,
Suas maneiras de ser, suas vestimentas,
Enfim, conheci as mais variadas culturas!
Me encantei, mas no meio do caminho, em diante,
A saudade bateu, meu coração gemeu...
Não tem nada igual como o meu querido Brasil,
Um pais continental imenso e lindo!
Meu Rio Grande do Sul, com sua capital
Porto Alegre minha terra querida,
Que não é alegre só no nome,
Porto Alegre é alegre por demais!
Meu Guaíba, minhas flores, minha gente meus amores!
