A americana aos vinte anos
Deve alcançar o Egito,
Esquecendo do Titanic o aviso,
De no fundo mais soturno que a cripta dormir.

As sirenes cantam na América,
E as chaminés de arranha-céus vermelhos
Para as frias nuvens devolvem
Seus lábios de fuligem.

E no Louvre a filha do oceano
Está linda como o álamo;
Para o mármore de açúcar triturar,
A Acrópole, feito esquilo escalar.

Sem palavra entender,
Fausto no vagão lê
E Lamenta porque Louis
No trono não está mais.
