SOU À TOA (*) - - - (me ajudem)

Só encontrei as estrelas
quando havia escuridão.
E sob a luz das estrelas,
caminhando no sertão
criei trilha e caminho
vagando sempre sozinho.

Mas, se somem as estrelas,
este caipira moreno
se esforça tentando vê-las;
e bebe o orvalho sereno,
se espreguiçando na rede,
saciando sua sede.

Às vezes eu me imagino
parando minhas andanças.
saindo do meu cantinho.
Mas, me perco em lembranças.
Não sabendo o que fazer,
eu tento logo esquecer.

Assim levo vida boa,
displicente e feliz.
Então, me chamam de à toa*,
Mas foi assim que Deus quis.
E, pra não ficar calado:
- Mais à toa é quem me diz!
