O negro canta o seu dia a dia
Canta os açoites da nova chibata
Cant'a torpe dor que hoj'o maltrata
Cant'a saudade de su'alegria

E no seu cantar a vida retrata
Canta seus pontos, louvor e elegia
Contorce o corpo num'acrobacia
Na capoeira su'alma resgata

Do negro canto, do Banto lamento
do yorubá, da nação nagô
São tantos cantos que leva o vento

Quando o negro aqui aportou
Trouxe na alma o seu sentimento
Seu sofrimento em canto tornou
