As I approach the
exit to my destination
The sign reads:

VETERAN
NO JOB
DISABLED
HOMELESS

Written on a piece of cardboard
It sat on his lap
The third avenue bridge
was his ticket of support
The poster child of many wars
Those who fought, still fight
for our country
and the outcome of humanity
They are scattered everywhere
His legs were missing
trunk resting on a wheelchair
His message is clear
Underneath all those
layers of scruffy hygiene
pasted on what was left of him
That G.I
is still brave
While we stare
at the outer appearance
and blindfold his actions
He never lowers
his head in shame
He has a name
